After breakfast, enjoy a full day immersed in the excitement and traditions of the Calgary Stampede, one of Canada’s most celebrated western events. Known as the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth,” the Stampede brings together rodeo action, western entertainment, agricultural traditions, live music, food and a lively festival atmosphere. Today’s highlight is the Calgary Stampede Rodeo, where you will experience the energy of professional rodeo competition in one of the most famous rodeo arenas in the world. Between events, there will be time to explore Stampede Park, browse the western-themed attractions and enjoy the many food and entertainment options available throughout the grounds. Return to the hotel in the early evening.
Enjoy a relaxed morning in Calgary with time at leisure to explore the city, visit local shops or simply enjoy the hotel and downtown surroundings. This afternoon and evening, return to Stampede Park for another memorable Stampede experience. The evening’s feature event is the spectacular Calgary Stampede Grandstand Show, a high-energy production combining music, entertainment, elaborate performances and the excitement of the Stampede atmosphere. Before the show, enjoy dinner at the Grandstand Clubhouse buffet, offering a selection of dishes in a comfortable setting before settling in for the evening’s entertainment. After the Grandstand Show, return to the hotel.
This morning, leave Calgary behind and travel west toward the magnificent Canadian Rockies. This morning, we drive through the heart of the city and see some of the highlights including Princess Park area of the riverfront, before we make our way past Olympic Park and then through the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. We will drive through the scenic town of Canmore and then to Banff, at the centre of Canada’s very first National Park. Nestled high in the Canadian Rockies, the town of Banff is located within the Banff National Park. Once “Siding 29” on the Canadian Pacific Railway, the town of Banff was intended to be a tourist town from its very inception. The park’s first superintendent, George Stewart, even oriented the town’s first street so that it offered the best possible view of Cascade Mountain. With easy access to pristine wilderness, outdoor adventures, jaw-dropping landscape, and a vibrant history, there are many places to visit in Banff and Lake Louise. Upon arrival, we will explore Banff on a sightseeing tour with stops at Cascade Gardens, Hoodoos, beautiful Bow Falls, The Buffalo Museum, then visit the Cave & Basin National Historic Site, which tells the story of the hot springs that drew visitors to Banff and led to the creation of the National Park. Then we will take the gondola up Sulphur Mountain, here we will enjoy a group dinner at the top with an unparalleled view of the mountains and valley below.
Today is one of the great scenic journeys of the Canadian Rockies as you travel along the spectacular Icefields Parkway toward the Columbia Icefield. The highway winds between towering mountain peaks, turquoise lakes, glaciers and sweeping valleys, with numerous opportunities to stop and admire the scenery. One of the highlights of the day is Peyto Lake, one of the most photographed viewpoints in the Rockies. From the viewpoint, the lake’s vivid blue waters stretch below the surrounding peaks, creating one of the region’s most memorable panoramas. Continue toward the Columbia Icefield, one of the largest accumulations of ice south of the Arctic Circle. Here, board the specially designed Ice Explorer for an unforgettable journey onto the Athabasca Glacier. The massive vehicle travels directly across the ancient ice, allowing you to experience this remarkable glacial landscape up close. After the Ice Explorer experience, begin the scenic return journey to Banff, with additional photo stops along the Icefields Parkway as time and conditions permit.
After breakfast, travel to Lake Louise, one of the most iconic destinations in the Canadian Rockies. Surrounded by soaring mountain peaks and glaciers, the lake is renowned for its brilliant turquoise waters. Enjoy time at the lakeshore to take in the scenery, photograph the dramatic landscape and explore at a leisurely pace. Next, surrounded by dramatic, jagged mountain peaks, the brilliant turquoise waters of Moraine Lake create one of the most breathtaking vistas in the region. Enjoy time at the lakeshore to take in the scenery and capture photographs of this unforgettable Rocky Mountain setting. Continue through the Bow Valley to Johnston Canyon, where a gentle trail follows Johnston Creek through a spectacular limestone canyon. Walk along the well-maintained pathways and bridges to view the dramatic waterfalls and rushing waters that have carved their way through the canyon over thousands of years. Return to Banff in the late afternoon to enjoy one final evening in the Rockies, with a Farewell Group dinner.
Our epic Rocky Mountain journey comes to a close this morning as we head home with memories of the stunning landscapes that we have passed through and the hospitality of the people who call this home.
